major news from the studio

as many of you know i do not often post personal things on this blog. i've tried to keep this news private for as long as i could, but so much misinformation is being circulated (some intentional - thanks, you know who you are! - and some accidental) and i'm replying to far too many emails and phone calls to NOT post about it.
i (susan) am moving to park slope, brooklyn on july 11th, 2008.
what does that mean?
let's start with what it DOESN'T mean.
1. i have not sold my business, portraits OR weddings. i have not gone OUT of business. i have not quit photography.
2. i have not stopped taking wedding commissions.
3. i have not dropped off of the face of the earth.
now. let's talk about what it DOES mean.
1. i will no longer be living in tallahassee, florida. i will be living in brooklyn.
2. the susan stripling photography commercial studio in tallahassee will be leased starting august 01, 2008 by another portrait photographer in tallahassee.
3. i will no longer be accepting portrait commissions in TALLAHASSEE. i will be available for portrait commissions in new york starting july 13, 2008.
4. inga finch, production manager of the gods, will remain in our offices in tallahassee and will continue with the things she does so well. your reprint orders, album designs, and all the things you've come to love and desire from inga will still be inga's. she still has her job. for that, i think she's happy. but i will miss her.
5. i am still available for weddings. florida weddings. tallahassee weddings. weddings everywhere. the most common misconception of this move is that i will no longer be accepting commissions for weddings in florida or the south or anywhere but new york. that is simply 100% NOT true. i have been almost wholly a destination wedding photographer and will travel anywhere for weddings. my florida rates, for the forseeable future, will not be changing. living in tallahassee always meant i had to travel and living in brooklyn will make that no different.
6. for the most part, except for no longer serving the tallahassee portrait market, NOTHING will change. i'll be at every single contracted wedding for the fall, same as normal. albums will be designed, proofs delivered, everything will be business as normal. just with mets games and brooklyn accents in the background....
i have also been asked WHY i am moving. i must ask you to respect that part of that decision is, and will remain, personal. tallahassee has been very good to me and i will miss it. but for many reasons it's time to head onwards and upwards and i do believe that i will be able to serve my wedding clients better, both now and in the future, by changing my base of operations.
i am very excited about what is to come and thank you for allowing me a second to explain the changes. other things are coming soon such as a new site, new look, and general spring-cleaning of our online presence.
i will be moving july 11th-15th but will be reachable via email and phone in the meantime. once the 15th rolls around it's business as usual!

for those photographers out there looking for a new set of actions - really, in my opinion, there is only ONE set to try. the totally rad action set by the genius minds over at boutwell studios. these are the actions that i use for most of my enhanced post-processing, they're quick and easy to learn and the results are nothing short of awesome.
they also JUST RELEASED THE TOTALLY RAD 2 SET! i have been playing with these for weeks and i've been delirious with joy, often found talking to myself and saying "i love grandma's tap shoes!' and "p.o.s. lens is the best! i love beer goggles!"
